Vision

What would be your definition of vision? Vision is developing something in the present that will impact the future! I say this with great respect to a man that had great vision- Walt Disney. I don't know if Walt was a Christian or not, but I do know that he was a man before his time. My family and I had a much needed vacation coming and all agreed to go to Orlando, Florida- Home of Walt Disney World. We had a great time and a much needed rest. We purchased 7 day "park hoppers", which means we had 7days to visit every Disney park we wanted. There was Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Disney Studios, Animal Kingdom, Downtown Disney, and the ESPN's Wide World of Sports. You name it, we saw it! We spent all day at each park going to shows, eating every sort of food you can imagine and riding every ride possible (I rode the Pirates of The Caribbean 5 times)! However, what stood out to me the most, besides all the Disney attractions was a museum of the life and story of Walt Disney. In this museum was everything from the desk he used to draw the first Mickey Mouse to old pictures of him in his mouse infested apartment. But what was amazing to me was his vision for all humanity. He believed that if you can take every race, culture, language and skin color away from the "hustle and bustle" of life for one day through entertainment and fun, you will not only develop loyal customers but you would have accomplished what the government can't- people for one day living in harmony. Wow! That was not a slap to the government, that was a head on collision with the church! Imagine if the church had that philosophy? Every Sunday all eyes and thoughts off of "you" and focus on Jesus! The constant reoccurring theme was Mickey Mouse. Everywhere you turned, Mickey this Mickey that. Imagine the church with a reoccurring theme, everywhere you turned, Jesus this and Jesus that! Somehow, Walt Disney captured what the church should have captured long ago. You see, that's vision. Vision is not how you build a new building and grow a church, vision is how you disciple people to love the Lord their God with all their heart, soul and mind as well as loving their neighbor as themselves, that's vision! I encourage you to envision more than a building, but start envisioning for a people and a culture. So that at our place of worship, the one reoccurring theme would be evident, Jesus is here!
